Journalists working in Nepal are invited to join an Investigative Reporting Fellowship program. Focus will be onprobing obstacles to Nepal’s post-earthquake recovery.

The Reporting Fellowship will give SIX journalists funds for domestic travel and to take extra time to report and produce an in-depth story.

 

From Sept. 1 through November 1, reporters will be asked to participate in research and to propose story ideas. During this time they will participate in a group project to examine data about post-earthquake relief funds.

They will be working with Fulbright Specialist Lucinda Fleeson, an experienced American journalist, through email and online platforms.

 

From November 14 through December 19, the six reporters will meet once per week with Ms. Fleeson who will be based at the Centre for Investigative Journalism-Nepal.

During online and hands-on sessions journalists will learn about new data and storytelling strategies to help them cover these critically important issues.

Interested journalists working in Nepal are invited to send a letter of interest. The application deadline: Aug. 29, 2016.

Fellowship benefits:

Intensive coaching and work with a senior journalist

Cash grant of $500 US per Fellow:

• $100 for travel within Nepal;

• $150 for participating in the data project;

• $250 upon completion and publication or broadcast of Fellowship-related story.

Fellowship criteria:

▪ Journalists must live and work in Nepal

▪ Full-time journalists and/or freelancers working for domestic or international news outlets are eligible (print, online, and/or broadcast)

▪ Journalist must be fluent in English

Applicants must submit the following documents to be considered for the fellowship:

• Letter of nomination from an employer or media outlet confirming commitment to publish at least one fellows ip-related story (can be email)

• Letter of commitment from the applicant to participate in the data project and online story development in October and September, and to meet at least weekly in November and December. Letter should outline the reason for applying for the fellowship and hoped-for outcomes.

• Two work samples, preferably related to the earthquake. (Can provide links)

• Brief Resume/curriculum vitae
